Series of looped video projections
New Commission & Residency

Juhana works in response to the history of sites and institutions. During a residency in August 2010, Juhana Moisander interviewed staff about Cornerhouse urban folklore of the last 25 years for a series of uncanny video interventions installed across the site.

Like much of his work, Juhanna references mythology and early cinema, to produce ghost-like encounters. The use of single takes, reminiscent of early cinematic practice, and small, barely perceptible movement emphasises the uncanny impression.

Juhana Moisander was born 1977 and lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. In Moisander's installations, videos and photographs, a dim space is constructed in which history, memory and fantasy meet.

When constructing his fantasy-world meeting venues, Moisander often uses himself as a model. He has shown widely in Scandinavia and beyond, including solo exhibitions at Gallery Format, Malmö, Helsinki City Art Museum and Babel Gallery, Trondheim, Norway.

He has shown work in exhibitions as diverse as Moscow Biennale for Young Art, Subvision Art Festival, Hamburg and was winner of the public vote of the Turku Biennal 2009.
